Job Summary

 

Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson) is the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. As one of Canada’s top ten research institutes, we are committed to furthering scientific knowledge to advance health care around the world.

 The Research Coordinator will work with two investigators, Drs. Vipul Jairath and Michael Sey, in the Department of Medicine in facilitating clinical research studies related to gastroenterology. Responsibilities will include coordinating all clinical aspects of multiple research studies simultaneously. Additionally, the candidate will prepare and submit documents to the Research Ethics Board and maintain essential study documents, study files, and electronc data capture systems. The Research Coordinator will also be responsible for recruiting and retaining study participants, communicating with participants and physicians, and coordinating and conducting clinical trial visits.

Responsibilities:

  • Administration and oversight of research studies from site selection to REB close-out
  • Patient recruitment activities including but not limited to: obtaining informed consent, pre-screening charts, detailed discussions with potential participants, coordination of screening visit requirements
  • Patient retention activities such as: continued patient support, scheduling of all necessary visits according to protocol outlines, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and conducting complex study visits following GCP principals
  • Creation and maintenance of source documents, site study procedures, and letters of information
  • Communication with participants in studies that require follow-up
  • Data management including chart abstraction, data collection, coding, and database administration
  • Management of study-specific health sciences research ethics board (REB) requirements including application, amendments, continuing ethics review, and data safety monitoring board
  • Oversight of Health Canada and industry requirements for interventional studies
  • Ensure completion and maintenance of Lawson training requirements for clinical research including Good Clinical Practices (GCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCP)
  • Attendance at monthly IBD clinical trials team meetings
  • Perform work in accordance with LHSC/Western University’s corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety, Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans, and the Province of Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act

Rate of Pay:             To commensurate with experience

Hours of Work:       37.5 hours per week

Duration:                 One year with possibility of renewal

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor’s level degree in health research methodology, health science, or related field
  • Certificate in clinical research (clinical trials certificate/diploma, Society of Clinical Research Associates, Association of Clinical Research Professionals) preferred   
  • Experience with Health Canada CTA, GCPs, SOP, TCP, and research ethics
  • Minimum three years of experience in clinical research            
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and REDCap               
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills     
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:  
Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:

  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);
